My name is Meredith. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, grew up in Marietta, went to university in Nashville and then moved to the south of France after graduation. After five years in Provence teaching and finishing my master’s degree in literature, I moved to Tel Aviv. For the next 20 years, I worked as a journalist, copywriter, freelance writer and marketing manager for social media campaigns.
In 2019, a few months before the global pandemic began, my husband and I decided to move to the southern tip of Portugal in the Algarve. Why? Higher quality of life for less money, no wars or gun violence, great schools, good healthcare and the ability to build our dreams.
We got slowed down quite a bit due to Corona, but now we’re finally on track again and hoping to open our aerial, art & wellness retreat center just outside of Lagos by the summer of 2022.
In the meantime, we decided to create a website for other expats who would like to retire or relocate to Portugal. There are some hurdles and bumps you can avoid through the experiences of others, and we’re gonna do our best to help make your transition even easier.
I wish I had had a place to go for information about schools, healthcare, buying real estate, buying cars, purchasing land, getting a driver’s license here, filing taxes and many other details BEFORE I moved. I’m here now doing my best to create relevant content for those of you who want to make Portugal your new home.
This is a stunningly beautiful and safe country with great schools, good healthcare and plenty of sunshine. But it always helps to hear from others who have gone before you in the same boat.
